AS/NZS5033:2014 Compliant Earth Fault Alarm

To simplify compliance with the new AS/NZS5033 standard, Delta now offers an even easier solution for installers, using a 12Vdc strobe light connected to the inverter’s internal power source.

From 11 July 2015, the AS/NZS5033 standard requires newly installed PV systems to have an Earth Fault Alarm system connected.

All current Delta RPI inverters have the capability to satisfy AS/NZS5033 and can achieve compliance via the installation of an external alarm signal.

To simplify compliance with the new standards, we now offer a 12Vdc strobe light with all inverters.

1.   AS/NZS5033:2014 Amendments

  • An Earth Fault Alarm system shall be installed which, in the event of an earth fault, cause an action to be initiated to correct the earth fault.
  • The alarm needs to repeat at least hourly until the fault is fixed.
  • The alarm can be a light, audible signal or another form of communication (email/SMS).
  • If using a light or audible signal, it shall be installed where it will be noticed.

2.   Delta’s compliance with AS/NZS5033:2014

All RPI inverters come pre-equipped with a multi-function relay and a dry contact to trigger the alarm. The alarm signal requires power to operate, which can come directly from the inverter (12Vdc) or an external source (240Vac), compatible with the dry contact. The internal 12Vdc power source on the RPI Series comes from the MFR board. Additionally, Delta’s RPI inverters display fault information on the unit’s LCD display and the LED fault light.

There are two preferred solutions to supply the external alarm with power:

a) Internal MFR Board: 12Vdc power source

b) External power supply: 240Vac power source

NOTE: The above described solutions are not prescriptive; installers may choose to install an alternative solution.
